MIRIAM National Service Training Program (NSTP), March 2012

As part of their NSTP program the students of Miriam, under the guidance of NSTP Miriam Chairperson Joan Hope Tobias and with the partnership of the Bahay Nakpil-Bautista’s Dr. Tess Obusan and Baranggay 393 Captain Fredrick Go, contributed to the enhancement of the exterior perimeter of the Bahay, proper to its being a historical landmark.

Inspite of the extreme heat, the students, armed with pails of paint, paint brushes, gloves and bottles of water, peeled election posters from the blighted building’s walls, repainted the entire building’s back walls. Huge scrubby street pots were colorfully transformed and flowering plants were added to them. They worked the whole day side-by-side with the baranggay tanods and soon were joined by the neighbor’s children.

The transformation holds to this day and bright colorful flowers have sprouted in most of the pots.
